In a move aimed at upskilling the street food vendors, the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship (MSDE) will impart skills training to the street food vendors and make them eligible for e-cart licenses while improving the hygiene conditions in food preparation and aesthetics of vending. Since the main objective of this programme itself is to provide relevant skills to the street food vendors which will lead towards better services to consumers, more opportunities to vendors for revenue generation, awareness on regulations and stipulated rules and better services to the local bodies.
The Street Food Vendor is responsible for vending cooked or ready-to-eat food on mobile cart streets. The individual at work cooks or procures the ready-to-eat food, serves it in a safe way, runs the business, cleans the utensils and surroundings, disposes off waste and manages the business. The job requires the individual to be able to perform physical activities such as standing, pushing, bending, lifting, twisting and some heavy lifting. It also requires that the individual works in outdoor conditions during the day. Under the initiative, the street food vendors will be educated on health and safety standards, Safety provisions protocols, effective communication techniques with staff and customers, new-age skills such as digital literacy, financial literacy, digital payments and e-selling.
